I can hardly believe our little baby boy is half way to his first birthday. When did that happen? Everyone tells you time will just fly by after you have a baby but you don’t quite get it until you experience it for yourself. This has been the fastest yet most wonderful six months of my life.
Mr. Lincoln continues to be our little mover and shaker. Not only did he start sitting up all by himself this past month, but he started crawling too! He’s still army crawling most of the time but has started getting up to his hands and knees more and more. Now that he’s mobile he is into EVERYTHING. He is a busy busy boy. Sometimes, of course, this is a challenge but I wouldn't have it any other way. I love our spirited little boy!
He’s really starting to like his toys now that he can play with most of them, but like most babies he likes playing with everyday things more than anything. When we were on a flight back home from Omaha he was playing with a little cardboard coffee cup sleeve from Starbucks (and ignoring all the fun toys we brought with us of course) and once he starting tearing it to pieces with his little teeth and trying to eat it we took it away from him. You would have thought we were torturing him the way he screamed. Luckily being the savvy parents we are we had managed to grab a stash of sleeves to keep him amused for hours so we happily pulled out a fresh one for him to gnaw on. Being first time parents, however, we neglected to realize that what we thought would amuse him for hours actually amused him for about four minutes. Awesome. We somehow managed to keep him entertained for four more hours and all made it home in one piece without our fellow passengers shooting us too many dirty looks.
Lincoln definitely takes after his Daddy in that he loves all things technology. He loves to gnaw on electronic cords, pound on computer keyboards, and chew on cell phones. He had a ball playing on the ipad with Uncle Benny and Gampy.
Link still loves being swung around – especially upside down. Maybe he’ll be an acrobat someday. He also loves to spin in circles. I hold him close and we spin until we’re both dizzy. He smiles and coos and it is just so adorable. Now that he can crawl it’s fun to put him down after twirling and watch him try to crawl in a straight line :-) I know, I know – Mom of the Year here.
Alice and Scout are getting more and more used to Lincoln. They have a new challenge, though, now that he’s getting more mobile. His loves to pull their tails as they are trying to escape his clutches. Subsequently the new word we’re working on is gentle. It’s a work in progress for sure.
Now that Lincoln has hit six months we've started our journey into the world of solid food. We started with rice cereal which he happily ate a few times but once we started introducing other foods he quickly lost interest in it. Such a refined palate for such a young age ;-)
He now has three little teeth in his sweet little baby mouth. They are just too cute. It’s amazing how much older they make him look – especially now that he has one of his two front teeth. Unfortunately it's tough to get a picture of his upper chomper. Maybe by next month...
Even with three little teeth, breastfeeding is still one of my favorite times with Lincoln. I love just snuggling close to him and giving him just what he needs and loves. My mom told me not too long ago that I stopped nursing at seven months. I will be SO sad if Lincoln stops nursing next month. I hope I can still breastfeed him and that he's still interested for months and months to come.
Life with our son is pretty darn fabulous. We just couldn't imagine life without him.
Six months ago our world was turned upside down – and we love it!
